Hey I just got Cool Edit Pro a few weeks ago and I got all these samples I want to use and even a cd with high hats drums and snares and all sorts of sounds... and I don't know how to program them...The stuff I made so far is not hip hop...I keep listening to rap beats and what I am making is not that...How do I lay down drums...snares and high hats in the right time to sound like rap beats someone can flow over...HELP I AM FRUSTRATED....it's like I keep making the beginning of a song and can't get any further....

CEP is not real good for drum patterns. I guess you could do it but it would be a pain. try Fruity Loops that's what most people around here seem to use for drums.

^ True. I've never used CEP from drum patterns, only Fruity Loops. I'm sure vitaminman will reply to this, but you should give FL a try if you're looking for an easy and simple way to put patterns together.

Hey,

Cool Edit is a multitrack recorder and sound editor, it's not really designed to to make music from scratch like what you're trying to do. In my studio I have synths and a sequencer to program beats, then I record them into Cool Edit to edit and mix with other sounds (likke vocals).

If you don't have any hardware synths or samplers, you can get software which will help you make beats. Fruity Loops is a pretty popular one here (that's 3 for 3 now), maybe you should go that route.

Take care,

Nick
