Of course the Mackies are great, I would love to have those! You mean the HR-824's, right? But Duece is looking for something less expensive, on a budget.

what the 1st kidd said, the alesis's are good bang for the buck... But ur monitors are 1 of the most important parts of ur equip. set up. If I was you, I'd save a little more and cop some higher end joints so ur next upgrade will be for some BANGERZ... Try and stay away from M-audioz...

Deuce look if you are on a budget and really can't find any second hand monitors, go find a pair of old house speakers...I'm talking sansui or sony......the kind of speaker that are rated like 200 watts from back in tha day that probably came with a top of the line stereo system, I know several people that use those with their cool edit studios and they work better than nothing and they can cost between 50-100 for a good pair.....of course you will need the amp too

You can get the Alesis Mk1's for around $300 a pair. They are the best monitors at that price range.

I've got some and they are decent. But if I wated a bit I could have some alessi or mackie (or even the behriger) that would be better. I don't think I'll keep them very long. Of course it's better then nothing...

I don't recommend low-end monitors that then need a separate subwoofer for adequate bass-signal referernce, Duecemade...

I think that a good pair of, you guessed it, amped speakers, like Infinity, JBL offer a great reference signal for a much lower price than the lower-end monitors a lot of comapnies are trying to push these days, don't fall for it.

I would only recommend getting active monitors when really getting into your business, which would mean the 800dollar and up models which definitiely give you a nice reference signal (supposing your studio is built with that in mind). That's when the word "Genelec" becomes part of your vocabulary, lol...

events are good. deeper bass than moss other cheap monitors having accurate bass is very important for mixing hip hop. just my 2 sense. i use event 20/20s (passive) with an alesis ra-100 amp

If you're on a tight budget then I recommend the Event 20/20 passive monitors. They got great sound for their price range. I can't even afford a decent amp so I gotz mine hooked up to a bookshelf stereo and i'm still impresses by the sound.
