Those who choose not to rap, DJ or B-boy are making their mark in a whole different way.
Writers are spreading their names on walls and trains everywhere from New York to Newcastle.
Since back in the day it’s been pretty much the backdrop to hip hop.
Artists across the country reveal what fires them up and the dangers they face from getting hit by a train to getting lifted by the law.

What fires up writers? - Hear the documentary: http://www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/realmedia/docs/getting_up.ram

thanks for the documentary, i know a few graff artist and they all seem to feel the same way as these kats in this clip. I've always had a respect for the art and the risk. One artist i know hit up his name on a police station....that to me is some crazy ish. It seems that hip hops least talked about element is finally making its mark, playstation 2 has a new game coming out where you hit a peace up where you can and try to dodge cops. It looked pretty dope. thanks again for bringing this to the forum.....much respect on that one.

Ah I rember the days of running round with a spray can, paint markrs and shoe dye. Writing my name on every thing. I wish I did a full burner but never did. Just tags outlines and small burners dat most don't exist no more. ..... Those were the days. .....

I remember them days. Doing tags, throw-ups, pieces, panels, burners, wholecars etc. It's been 7 years since I stopped now. Still draw a little, but nothing much. I got caught twice, but loved the adrenalin rush though.
