It's just a tool in the Reason tool box! DON'T OVER USE IT! The difference between a "seasoned" producer and a rookie is how they use what, when, where and how! If you're using it on every single track your fucking up it's purpose. Drums, drums drums......that's it's main purpose. The subtle use of anything is always best. I've been down with Reason a very very long time and basically know it like the back of my hand. If your drum tracks sound a little stiff employ ReGroove mixer to bring things to life. U can experiment on other instruments but it was given birth for your drum patterns! KEEP IT SIMPLE! 1

They bit that off the MPC. Back when i used Reason a lot that was one of the features that I really wished it had. I hated how shuffle/swing was global too, that bugged the shit outa me. Really glad they fixed that finally.
I think that the groove mixer is the shit though. It helps give a more human feel to your drums when used respectively. (Mainly if your a QUANTIZER tho) if you sequence without quantize on then you dont often even need it because your using it in the first place to simulate that feel of playing live.

The features pretty self explanatory though. The manual even goes over it in a pretty straight forward way. just give a read real quick.

EXACTLY! The only time I quantize anything in Reason is when I use the ReDrum in pattern mode. After I render it to track I go back in and apply swing with the ReGroove mixer. I basically let that quantize shit go years ago. I can beat my drums without it. It's very necessary when doing certain "dirty south" tracks though. Hard to do "dirty" drum rolls without it. Live music is not "exact" timing so if you want that some what live feel u have to either use swing after the fact or don't use quantization during.

Word. Well Southy beats totally rely on that sound so thats understandable. Without full-velocity strict note repeat patterns it wouldn't be the same i suppose???.....Personally i like more dynamics to my drums but that is the sound if yer going for the south feel.

Funny thing: When i used Reason for a span of version one - three, i never quantized. I just taught myself to never rely on it. Then once i copped the MPC i started with training wheels on for some reason and began to utilize the quantize while sequencing!?....lol. Now im tryin to break back out of it. I often just quantize certain parts and let the other parts be free without it on. Still gives me that in the pocket feel but kinda loose at the same time....

Sorry, back on topic.

Sometimes You Quantize...sometimes You Dont...it Depends On What Kinda Feel You Want. If Your Using All Synth Sounds (which I Call Generic Sounds But Not In A Negative Way) I Feel Its Best To Quantize Those Sounds (planet Rock) But If You Sample, You Want Your Drums To Swing With The Tempo And Tune Of The Sample And Have A Humanistic Feel To It So You Might Not Want Quantize Drums In This Situation. Just My 2 Cents.

98% of the time I don't and yes, it is my preference but imo I would also add that 98% of the time it's not needed (if you have rhythm). A LOT of producers DON'T when it comes to putting the drum pattern down. I've been "unpleasantly" surprised when seeing vids or actually sitting in on some producers lacing a track. Without out quantization they couldn't do anything from the hatz to the kicks to the snares to the bass line. I was like "damn", dude got no rhythm at all...PERIOD! Some can't even put down a kick & snare combo of 4 bars...that's "a damn shame" if u ask me.....so don't ask me!

That aint me sun...I can lay a drum pattern without it. I can make a beat pattern using the NN-XT without quantization...have done it in the past. it all depends on what route you wanna take. You will always get a natural feel developing beat patterns in the NN-XT sampler. Thats real talk.
