Now i have a month off for the holidays, and want to make a lot of beat in a day, I had a month, I planned 5 beats/days, so 5 x 30 = 150. I planned my self 150 beats for the month....BUT I CAN'T. It's too fuckin hard, especially the fact that i don't sample a lot cuz it takes me too long to find something to sample.

So what I would like to know is how much time you put on a beat and how do you go on the next one. Cuz me, a lot of time i make a beat, than i listen to it a lot and I can't get over it. Also, when i'm done making a composed beat, i feel exhaaausted.

-So do you make a beat, take 30 mins-1h break?
-Do you use the same drums for 2-3 beats, than change kit for the next 2-3 beats? or always a new kit for each beats??
-And if you composed your beat, do you mind making a beat that sounds like the previous? ( i think a lot of producers don't mind, cuz that's why some beats by the same producer sound alike )

I know i know, that's a lot of question, but i'm tryina get ma grinnnnd onnnn...LET'S GET IT!

if u think along those lines ur gonna make wack tracks......

U gotta do u, i live in bedstuy next to holmz, he came over we discuessed our beat making styles, holmz can bang out 3 tracks in a day

I usually make 1 track every 2 days, espically if its composed, thats just my style, (i can work faster with samples)all that matters is the qualitity

Seriously dont fall for that 5 beats aday bullshit that u read in magazines, I gurantee it dont work like that, do you...

well i never create a beat from scratch, i sample all my beats. but i just pick out random records and i force my self to make a beat with it, and honestly you will be suprised of what you come up with. and i just do this a couple times a day, some shit you like and other shit you dont, its not realistic that you are going to wind up with 150 in a month. dont worry about how long it takes you to make a beat, just go at your own pace, to make a quality beat it takes time, you know

if u can do five do it, if you can do more do that too

either way if u get ideas down its practice so its better than not doing a track at all, theres no rule that u cant come back to it later if its an idea u want to finish

not everything is gonna be a keeper even if you take 2 weeks to make 1 track

ur always gonna feel good about some tracks and others u'll be like its ok, but what really matters is will an MC like it

a lot of times beats u wont like somebody else will

making tracks is kinda like writing a never ending book, u get ideas down on paper u keep some and u scrap some but u compile ur best stuff into chapters

Personally I say you just do however many you want. However as a good practice every so often find an acapella (i'm stealing the idea from that other post here) and force yourself to make one. I only say this because once you are in the game (as in you got like Method Man or Ludacris or whoever wanting a beat) they're going to just ask for one or give you some vocals and you gotta be able to sit down and be like ok lets make this ill. So just do you with the occasional test to keep yourself sharp

Quality over quantity, always. I don't think anybody can make 150 beats in a month and all of them be good, much less even half of them.

I really appreciate your responses man. I feel more comfortable with my game already lol. I think that one beat a day is something more realistic. I'm really into this, cuz I'm scared that i get the chance to place one of my beats and then industry people comes to me and that i can't make enuff beats or don't have enuff.

I don't know for you guyz, but me, if i make a "good" beat or average at best, i can make like 2 or 3 in 2 days, but if I make a beat that I find really Ill, i can't make another beat for like 2-3 days, cuz I feel to much pressure to make a beat as good.

thx a lot

Very true querty, Kanye said your only as good as your last beat, and it's true. I think the pressure of making a better beat is what ups your game though, ya know. Every time I make a new beat I make sure its better than my last or I just throw it out. By the way did you hear that Timbaland is retiring??

That's definitely stretchin your skills (and sanity) too far. 150 beats is horribly unrealistic bro and they will not only all sound the same, but you will like 10 at most from that whole batch. Trying to force that number, or assigning certain time slots to work on certain beats and then moving on is not how anyone makes good music. Also don't use the same kits, you gotta change that up with each song. Interchange kicks, pitch things up and down but make them different. What would you possibly do with 150 beats that dont represent your best work anyways?

It's been said before, but quality over quanitity is where it's at. Make as much music as your comfortable with but don't force it if it's not there. I may make 5 beats in a day but out of the 5 beats, 3 of them will be horribly failed ideas/attempts of a beat, 1 of them will be a decently retarded beat and the other one will be somewhat usuable (or average, nothing too special) type beat. Thats about an average daily ratio I go through, but every 3-4 days I may get a beat that just has that tight vibe to it that's just an all around ill joint. Then you have your inbetweens and everything. I'd say about 20-30% of my work is dope/has real potential according to my standards.

Moral of story,

Quality OVER quantity!!

Peace

I think the people who can make 5 beats a day are the people who have setup that's easy enough for them to create. sometimes they end up using the same drum sounds or keyboard sounds. It all depends on how you feel the music is. once you get a good way of how you make your tracks, it becomes easier. usually i get a good 8 or 16 bar loop going and make sure everything is sounding good, then i start to make changeups.
