Foam Pads, or Stands?

I'm talking about monitor isolation. Apparently theres two ways, those little foam pad shits that you put under the monitors, and monitor stands. I was just curious, what's better?

Both get the job done. If you really crank the speakers I'd go with the stands instead. Sound will still transfer to your desk or table at loud volumes with the foam pads. At medium to low levels the pads will work fine.

Something hard will transfer sound waves...even if its a sponge. At low levels they probably work but turn up the volume and you get reverberation I'm sure. Foam pads transfer less because the "softness" and porous make up defuses the sound waves. Hardening the sponge defeats the purpose imo.

Well of course to do it "Right" spend cash on the real deal pads, but homeboy from gearsluts, the guru of room treatment, whose name escapes me this early am (Ewin something I think) says that it works..
Ive tried it, it works...
I dont really monitor at monster volumes anyway I need my ears... But What Im saying is, while your waiting for your pads to arrive in the mail, run down to the store and grab the pack of sponges... It works!

I'm sure it's worth trying.

free standing stands (uncoupled, but unrealistic for majority of home studios) would be best.

Cosign, but if your strapped for cash, those MoPads are pretty good. A homie of mine that lives in LA uses them in his studio and they def reduce vibes....
