What up ya'll

I'm new here, and have a few questions. First
I'm setting up a home studio, and trying to pick out a sound card. The 2 choices i'm looking at right know are the m box and the emu 1820. I like the m box because it's cheeper and it come with pro tools, but the emu says it has master grade convertors, and has more ins and out's. I really don't need all those in's and out's that the emu has, so which one do you guy's would be best for me. I'm just gonna recording my raps on beats and mixing and mastering. Is there really a big difference in sound quality.

And second

Depending on what i choose, what would be the best computer to use a p4 or the new amd 64.

THank everybody.

I wouldnt fuck with the M-Box personally....Not nearly as many outs or capabilities. The EMU might have better AD converting too. I have the 1820 and its solid bro.
Only thing that would make me sorta want a MBox would be if i was entirely laptop based and very mobile. Still, even then - i think i would rather get a firewore card like the 410 or something similar.

With consideration for what u need it for though, id prob cop a Audiophile Firewire setup, or even more simple, that Tascam Micpre.

Jus peep all these, this the kinda shit you wanna look through.

Heres a tascam joint.....

Theres this guy too...

PS..Id go for a pre that has XLR's instead of just a 1/4 TRS. Better sound quality.

Yeah, if yer real down with PT then go for it, though i still wouldnt bother unless i was coppin the HD version, not the M Box.

As far as software, i dont have to work specifically with one prgm in conjunction w/ the EMU. The EMU is jus the card. But namely, i use Reason, Cubase, and Live.

From what im gathering from yer original post, what u need is really just a MicPre, that is unless u actually need a Soundcard too? Cuz what is a reasonable MicPre w/out a good card to run it through right?
So in that case, dont bother with the Tascam, or the M-Audio joints that are ONLY mic-pre's.
Instead, look to get something like the 410.......Theres other companies out there as well though, thats jus what i could think of off the top.

From your needs, I would say an M-Box would suit you. If you don't need more ins/outs and just want to record your vocals over beats and master them, then PT and M-Box does the job. If you get Emu, I guess you need a recording program too.
It also kind of depends on if you have other plans after that and what programs you already use...at least in my opinion.

Yeah, i'm just gonna make beats in reason and rap over them, but i want to know wich card would have the best sound quality. Also If i got the m-box do you think it would run better on a p4 system or an amd 64 pc. Peace and thanks for the help.

ProTools suggest P4 themselves, so I would go with that. I use Reason myself, rewire it to ProTools, and record my vocals and mix and master everything there. It works for me and the sound is fine for me, for what I want to do with it. Whether it will be your taste is up to you.
