Fav sub genre...

Ive been wondering what the genral style of music that is being promoted here, and just wanna ask basically what is your favourite type of hip hop, mine being dark, and edging towards trip-hop....

i like my hip-hop slow, dark and edging towards trip-hop as well!
i prefer atmospheric\jazz driven beats, with lyrics that have the qualities of a poem.

i'd have to agree with you guys. i lean towards aesop rock, qwel, and sage francis, but i also like the roots, common, and mos def and kweli. every now and then i even throw on some m.o.p. they are the pinnacle of the hardcore style of emceeing to me.

as far as what i produce...i pretty much run through everything. trip hop, hip hop, underground, commercial, reggae, RnB, some techno and dance. i even did one rock track

The most serious work that I've done was with trip-hop but its not my favorite nor my sub. I like it OK but second to today's general hip-hop, I like the old school style of hip hop (KRS-1, Jay-Z, Rakim).

The style that I hate the most is dirty south. I'm just not feeling the simplicity of the lyrics and the southern slur, " I like it when you do dat rite derrrrr". I'm not bashing dirty south style so you ds fans don't have to trip, it's just not my flav.

word up mercury ... i did a few rock tracks too... my fav sub genre has to be the 93 -96 boom bap Only built for cuban linx/liquid swords/it was written/ready to die ... type of stlye..... im still stuck on the older wu stuff... as an mc i love rippin tracks with that steady thump over a simple but lively melody... im not into the crazy sythn/neptunes style anymore really...(although i love timbo)i loved it when it first came out(as shown by the beats i used to make) but now its rather repetive and annoying.. it kindof hurts my ears..

i like any style of Hiphop as long as it has a phat beat and isnt infected with an ignorant arsed rapper. i like dark and party shit.....ie i like Aesop Rock n Sage Francis and I like Jurrasic 5 n Quannum too
