Currently I am using Cool Edit for all of my editing/effects, and have never used anything besides the sound recorder. But what is the best program for creating quality Echo's? I've never used Sound Forge so i'm sure thats better than Cool Edit (cause CE doesn't do much for Echo). Are there any good stand alone echo programs? or should i use Sound Forge? Or what? Where do i stand THX

Hey,

Cool Edit's echo is not bad at all, it has probably more controls than any of the other one's out there. Before going out and learning another one, could you tell us what you don't like about the CEP echo, and tell us what you're looking for...maybe some direction from someone here who uses it would help.

Take care,

Nick

Cool

Ok, I have this brass section from a record that I am sampling from and i am chopping up the horns. I want to add a real smooth echo at the end of each horn section from the sample to make the sample sound natural and not cut from a record. I need it subtle and realistic. and the length of the echo can only be about a second at most, because each horn section is about 2-3 second long. Thx for the help illmuzik!!

In the past, i have mainly used the Tah Mahal echo effect becuase some of the other's do not sound natural. i mainly use echo to fix samples so they sound more natural. im not into the dj clue echo effects. heh

Also, hey fade i probably should have posted this in a diff forum so if you see this then move it for me, cause i can't. sorry bout dat.

Hey,

In your situation I would use a reverb, where it makes a 'wash' of sound rather than discreet repetitions with an echo. CEP has three types of reverbs, the 'best' one is the Full Reverb because it is convolution based.

To make it fade out nicely, you could try adjusting the wet/dry balance.

Take care,

Nick

AAHHH Vitaminman,
Thanks a lot for that information. I've never really used reverb before.. but reverb is a perfect solution for my needs! it made the sample end perfect.

Thanks man,

Hey,

You're welcome!! Think of a reverb as the effect you get when you're in a big church, it's just the sound sort of fading away; an echo is like when you yell 'hello' into the Grand Canyon (hello...hello...hello...hello).

Cool Edit rules!
