You really don't need a mpc. Plus you can buy the pads as a midi controller if you just gotta have pads. I'm usta ponder on that.

MPC, exs24 in logic, fruity ( with or without slicer ), reason (redrum with rexfileplayer combo) and a "whatever " kinda acoustic drumkit, record all drums and slice n dice em in logic without sequencing into loops/drumtrack. The last one works pretty solid for getting the human-feel groove back to programming the breaks.

I use cubase or Fruityloops right now until I get all of my new studio gear in, I have been on the software kick for about the last 8 months and I can't wait...LOL
