Posted this on futureproducers.com already but I'm trying to get as much info as possible:
So most of my beats contain samples and as part of registering them with the copyright office I believe that I'm supposed to give the copyright code/number of the sampled song for each such beat. I called up the copyright office so they could do a search for these songs and they told me the fee is $330 ($165/hr for a minimum of two hours). This is pretty outrageous in my opinion -- I'm thinking of just driving my ass down to D.C. to do the search myself at the Library of Congress. This won't cost me anything, right (other than gas money)? As long as I don't ask them to help me? Someone with experience doing this please help me out, thanks.
