you need a sequencer and a midiinterface to controll your outboard equipment, a decent soundcard and that´s basically it. there are tons of products on the market and everybody uses and praises sth else. use what you´re comfortable with.
btw. interesting to hear people sell their mpc and want to get into computer based production. how "unreal" ;-)

the delta 44 is a good soundcard and a good start.
as far as i know it has no midi ins/outs. in order to controll your roland xp60 you need a midi interface. midiman´s midisport 2x2 is a great piece of hardware. I´ve been using it for 2 years now and it just works fine. You might also want to get a midi keyboard. there are lots of midikeyboards that already got an onboard midi interface, so you might want to check out some of them to avoid buying gear you don´t need and wasting cash. M-Audio Oxygen and Edirols RC30 are some quite nice keyboards. Both brands also got versions wit mor keys. just check out their websites. they all have additional faders - quite nice if you ask me. oh, and akai has midi drumpads - so you still have your mpc feeling when it comes to programming drums.
for sequencing i recommend cubase, fruityloops or sonar. i use fruityloops and feel quite comfortable with it (eventhough it has not near as much functions as cubase)- it depends on you.
so much for now,

You're looking to play something on your PC and record it into your VS-1880? That should be a simple MIDI hookup. What exactly is it you need help with?

I love the current "indirect" battle MPC vs MPD-16 & PC...

Akai probably don't regret making those pads...;)

Hey,

Yeah, I'll bet Akai are really raking in the dough with those. They're a complete ripoff as far as controllers go: $300 for a controller that can only send 16 notes? However, they're unique and satisfy a need for people who want to do pad-style programming on a PC.

Just wait a few more months before you come across other companies making similar pad-style controllers for $150 or even less...then the usual debates about 'which is better' will follow, and the discussions about what they actually do will come shortly after, etc.

well i seen them on ebay for around 149 to 175 so if i do go that way it wont be for nothing. plus i have my roland xp60 and it can act as a controller as well so im all good. by the way have you guys seen that new program by cakewalk P5. its supposed to be better than reason, fruityloops, and cool edit.

Hey,

P5 is a completely different program than Cool Edit, it's like comparing apples with diapers.

P5 is a virtual studio like Reason; Cool Edit is a wave editor and multitrack recorder.

Take care,

thanks for all the answers because im just lost. i went to the music store after finding out that P5 dont have a midi out function so that kill that right away. so the guy was like "get cubase and halion" thats $700 in software plus with me building my comp shit thats almost $1400 thats way out of my budget. he said that fruityloops was like a toy it wasnt industry quality (what ever that is) i just dont want to get some software that i wouldnt like. can i get a demo of fruityloops anywhere. thanks for all of your time peeps

you can find the demo @ www.fruityloops.com

I think fruityloops is better than it looks and very slept on.
If you do not want to spend so much money on Halion try
VSampler. It´s a good software sampler and I just started using it. I will finally put my S2000 on ebay, since the software is doin its job and buy Vsampler for the money I get out of ebay. More Infos @ www.vsampler.de
i hope this is of any help
