I should start making 1 or 2 bar beats! Listen to that.

Chubb was so underrated. He always was on point, had good beats and had a unique voice and flow. Somehow he was always under the radar.

I always liked this old one from him:

this is what im trying to explain to some of the people getting pissed about using samples already used, if only they realised that it was taking classics from 20 years before and making them their own that built hip hop from the ground up.
Hip hop is taking old drum breaks, melodies and loops, some of which were just a basic 2 or 4 bar loop and made absolute fucking classics. People like diddy would just rip off a whole track and rap on it, like Will.I.Am too.
There is a difference between biting and adapting, sometimes it might be a fine line, like the line between when vocal chops become a full blown hook. Personally I dont have a problem with people putting hooks on their beats, its the hazy line that causes some issues. Maybe we should just allow hooks from now on, as I listen to "step into a world" by krs 1

Will i am is a douchebag. Diddy started the whole movement of taking an entire track to "sample".

Back in the 90s there was a sample, I can't remember which one, but at one point there were about 3 different artists using the same sample lol. I thought it was weird, but they all flipped it a bit different which was cool.

This is why I'm a big fan of the Bomb Squad. The shit those guys did was insane. So many little bits of sound they would take and make something completely new.

Yeah maybe we should allow hooks from now on. For example, I could do away with the "vocal snippets rule" and just put it as "vocals allowed only on the hook". But then we have to make sure it's an actual hook and not people arguing what a fucking hook is! :woot:

About the "already sampled" matter, every time I find a song that I want to sample I check whosampled.com to see if any major artist already used it... 9 times outta 10, there are already 3+ major artist who sampled it. Simple.

About the "hook allowed rule" I think we could try... not that there won't be debates afterwards but it would help make the beats in our battles less repetitive which is the main flaw of most beats... rarely do I listen to the whole piece, be it 1, 2 or 3 minutes.
