Being an assistant/gofer for an artist or producer

so my friend is lookin to do low level work for a new york artist/producer. he's a dj interested in seeing the business up close, and has a large and comprehensive working knowledge of the rap industry. where should he go to find an artist who needs a gofer or low level assistant?

its dumb easy to intern at a label .. but its harder to intern/ work for a specific artist or producer. I would try sending a cover letter and resume to the mangement company that the artist work under.

Intern is his best bet ... Most likely won't get paid for it but it'll be a good start.
