What's Happenin?
Kinda new here, I was wondering if anyone here uses a program called Audacity? I use it to chop up samples and record vocals, but I was wondering if there's an alternative that's a bit more professional but still free.

For a free (as in beer) multitrack audio/sequencer package, there's always Rosegarden (under Linux) and for just multitrack audio, there's Ardour (also for linux).

http://ardour.org/

I dual-boot my DAW machine between windows and Linux. At some point, I'm going to put both of those apps to the test and see what I come up with. They're both a pain in the ass to get going, but once you get everything installed and whatnot, it should be pretty stable.

you record vocals in audacity? sounds awkward!
It is awkward, but I'm new to vocal recording and to me just recording them and cutting them into FL Studio is progress for me. Vocal recording isn't my focus, all I have is the most basic of microphones from radio shack. Microphones, unlike programs, can't be pirated

MANNNNNNN, you sound like me a few years ago. I had a stolen microphone (from a karaoke machine, no less) and i tried to record in audacity.. i had better quality messin with windows sound recorder.

No one asked you to get a 'pirated microphone' lol you asked about programs.

I still managed decent quality with that mic once i got cooledit and started mixing and applying effects and waht not.
