How many of you are serious about having a career in the music industry, especially as a producer or artist?

I think there comes a time for everyone to decide what's best for them and if they have what it takes to make it. It's a tough career to get into, but I've always said that if you're really good at something, no matter what it is you do, then eventually you'll make it. Think about it. If you work hard enough at being a doctor or a garbage man, or even better - a PORNO STAR! then eventually people will feel you and want to hook up with you. And if you're a PORNO STAR, they'll want to hook up with you because you have a huge schlong.

But seriously folks, what's the driving force for you? What makes you serious enough about producing music and trying to make it?
Huh? Huh??

yeah

That song is Masta Ace's "Acknowledge". He's dissing Boogieman. Classic disses.

I feel you on what you said about doing something you love doing, but for some people there comes a time when a decision must be made. I'm not getting any younger and I've been struggling for the last while and I'm fed up. Trying to decide what's best for me, y'know?

Wow tough topic.. I could write for days on this one lol. But really, when it all comes down to it, I think you do need to make a decision. Not a decision whether to go pro and get rich with this or not but whether or not you love this enough to keep going even if you do need to work a 9 to 5 (8 to 5 in my case) to pay the bills at the same time and keep struggling to get your stuff out there in the masses. Unfortunately it's not only about talent.. I wish it was. But with cases like Swizz Beatz and countless others out there with ASS beats who made it big, it seems to be more about having an uncle or brother in the business. For the rest of us it's a tougher road to get there, but if you feel you have a gift, or just plain love doing it, keep doing it.

There's your pep talk.

All I gotta say about this is that if I dont make it in music, Imma move to the woods and live off the land in a Una-Bomber style shack. Imma eat herbs and roots to survive and jerk off to sears catalogs.

I definitely plan on making it. I feel that me and my label have what it takes to work and compete at the major level with the cats that are already out there. I would dread a future of just making $40,000-$80,000 by working like Dilbert in an office job. If for some reason I don't make my living as a record producer - I'll have a lot of guns, start a militia, have a couple of unshaven, sleazy chicks to bang and live in the Unibomber style shack mentioned by Some Guy above.

But I'd jerk off to the Lane Bryant catalog - for plus sized women - cause I'm dirrrrrrty. *growls*

LOL!, I refuse to stay in an office i work in one now it sucks and is repetative i'm late to work because i wake up at 6 am to make beats before i go in. If i dont make it with music which i'm pretty sure i/we got a shot at, i'm gonna go to strip clubs in a lions mask and rob strippers, they carry a couple grand in small purses. I could make a good living doing that once a week.

Yeah I guess thats tru. I wanna make it big while I'm still young enough to enjoy it tho. I'm not tryin to be some middle aged man and still a nobody in the biz. Thats why Im setting deadlines from myself. Once I go past those deadlines then I know it wasnt meant to be. Then I'll move to the forrest and find a hollow tree and live inside it like a keebler elf.

I think beat making while be only a hobby (an expensive one by the way ;) ) for my whole live, because my beats aren't that great or whatever and I want to have some money, and familiy and kids n' stuff. So I do have to look after a well paid job which miht be boring...

Word its all about the money and because its fun to do, but the money comes first. I dont care what anybody says, working a regular job and doing it "For the love" aint cuttin it, having 20 bucks in your pocket for 2 weeks until you get paid, then have to pay off shit then be broke again aint cuttin it. The only people who bash people trying to get their paper are already stuck up rich snobs anyways, "DUDE YOUR A SELL OUT DUDE DO IT FOR THE LOVE MAN" fuck outta here with that shit.

Hey,

Initially I did it because it was a lot of fun figuring out synths, samplers, computers, etc. , a way to kill time, and to 'show off' whatever tracks I made to impress myself and friends. My eventual goal was to get a few tracks released here and there and see where it took me.

I never quite made it into the big time, but there were some small successes that came unexpectedly, I'm pretty satisfied with that for the moment.

Although I never became rich or famous, the skills I learned through trying eventually landed me a nice job in the audio industry.

Remember that this is a learning process with an infinite amount possible endings...some people will do very well and get very rich, others will find other things which interest them and leave all this behind.

Take care,

Nick

i do it for the love of it. there´ll be some album coming out this year where i did half the beats on a record label. it might bring some money, but not enough to pay off the hardware i bought so far. For me it is about making music, expressing feelings, performing live and having others hear and feel my stuff. word up

Yeah I'm definitely serious about it, I only have one track released on a the 'Making of the Matrix' DVD so I figured that's a start. I'm not doing it for the money, but it would be nice to quit my day job, but I'm not gonna be on any dicks to get there. I'd really just would like to stumble into the studio in the morning and make tracks all day and then hustle them out to whoever needs them and drop a solo every now and then. Either way I'll make beats cuz that's what I was put on this earth for.
