I still use a 1.24ghz PC... Saving all my little penny's though, going to build a dual core, probably mess it up and have to buy it all again though...

I think this is geared towards the visual and audio industry, for your average Joe editing some home movies its over kill though It wouldn't be surprised if a few idiots bought them just to have an 8 core system.

Can you imagine though somewhere like DreamWords having a bunch of these daisy chained (not the right phrase) and rendering some animation.

^^^^^^ lol .. thats tuff to do ... thats alot of plugins lol .... esp with 32 gigs of ram!! .. a few engineers i know never even get to 60% on there quad core with the slowest processor model that they have it... if u purpsoely load plugs on it im sure u could max it out but i dont see how a practial mix session would ever max out... if u gotta use that many plugins then something is wrong with your recording in the first place! in fact i dont even think daws have the ability to use all of the avaiable resources ... ive heard logic can only go upto 4 gigs of ram and pro tools can only use 2 processors etc.....

Those are definitely for visual effects type stuff. instead of taking a few days to render one shot for a movie on something like my g5 it'll go faster. Not to mention HD is gonna be the lowest resolution in the whole scheme they got going for the future... HD allready existed in the 80's but they held off cuz that's just smart marketing. You should see what they got coming next to phase out HD it's some crazy ish and these computers would get choked up on it easy.

I use it mainly for games though, im gonna hook up some dope sounds from it sooner or later though no doubt.

I also have an atari 1040stf, which i use as my sequencer. Shit has 1 mb ram.
What's amazing though, is that i turn it on and im in my desktop in less than 5 seconds. Id like to see your 8 core ultra mega macs or pcs do that!

What i find really weird, is that even though im a geek i have absolutely no desire to upgrade my pc to all these ridiculous new specs. For what i use it for its been fine so far. If you look at how fast pcs are now, and look at how windows and shit runs now and what it needs (vista etc) you wouldnt be able to tell that you just quadrupeled your pc speed or however much. Shit just seems to get more bloated and slower to me. I find this odd and disturbing.

I would take an old atari falcon030 over all these new systems anyday of the week!

this is true ... when i upgraded from a g4 to a g5 i actually couldnt tell the difference between the processors ... overall i could do more stuff at once if i pushed the system to the limit.. but in practical use it was basically the same thing... but im sure a 8 core processor would show a difference .. thats alot of power lol ... godamn
