I'm interested to hear opinions/experiences with tracking live bass (guitar)into your racks instead of using vsts or chopping a sampled bassline ?

Currently I think the biggest hurdle I can see is whether to tune the bass to the sample or the other way around . I think tuning the sample would be easier because then the bass can be left in standard tuning that way.

Or may be play the bassline and treat it as a sample ? (just random thoughts coming to mind here, but this seems a viable option)

it depends on what is easier for you...if you know how to play the bass guitar, it shouldnt be a problem playing that part with standard tuning.
add effects to the line before it reaches the amp then record it to your daw using your soundcard just like a standard live setup.
for me i think sampling is easier, just play a long C note (or what the first note on your sample is ) and lay it out on the keyboard. but i would prefer to play it with a bass guitar as it would give it a bit more expression and personality.
there are pros and cons to those two options it all depends on your equipment and the sound your after.
if the track your making is entirely dependent on that bass guitar by all means record it live but if its a simple bass on the background sample it.
again, it all depends on your equipment and capabilities.

hope that helps. let us know how you go!
Peace! ;)
