You should change the topic title, at least it would help i think..
I never used acid pro but if it works for you and you can make great beats with it, keep using it.
It never hurts to look around though, you could check out fruity studio, reason, cubase and a whole lot other things, google for their sites and try the demos.

Browse the production forums there are a lot of topics in which various software and hardware have been discussed and debated.

For recording tips also browse the production forums.
For more specific questions you can always open a new topic, a lot of guys and gals over here are happy to help as they once have been helped..

You can post your beats in the showcase (audiolounge) for feedback.

In my opinion, I dont think there's nothing out there that beats Acid, especially now that Sony has it, unless you wanna spend thousands of dollars to get a g5 and the latest edition of Pro Tools. I use Fl Studio and Reason together to build my tracks, but in the end all the time. I have to take my tracks to Acid to master and re-arrange them, and the results are quite amazing.
I also use Acid to do my mulit-track recording, so I am not sure why or who would tell you this, if you've got the time and patience to learn and master acid - you can make great beats with it, but its mad complicated, so a sequencer porgram like Fl Studio, Reason or others is the way to go, when building ya beats....Acid is the way to go for recording vocals and remixing.

Acid is only as good as what you put into it. It is totally suited for loop-based music genres like hip-hop. If you have the cash i would go with a main sequencer (logic, cubase, etc..) and incorporate acid into your productions.

The thing i love about acid is the way you can time-stretch, and chop up loops and samples so easily!! Oh yeah, the multi-track is mad simple to use also. I wouldn't use it as a midi sequencer, but apart from that it is HOT.

Don't let what other people say put you off.

You are only limited by your own level of creativity. I had a hard time with it about 4 years ago. I had ACID 2 and I was like "what the fuck"!
I quickly got back on my hardware. I went back a month later and just started playing with it till I understood the basics. Now I won't touch another program! I Have Reason... it's in it's case! I have CuBaseSX... it's in it's case, too! They're great programs but ACID is king! It's like having Alicia Keys, Serena Williams & Gabrielle Union wrapped up as one!

what's good is whatever works for you. Acid 4 is weak in some areas compared to the competition, especially in areas like midi. However , for straight loop based production, acid is still hard to beat. many heads seem to forget that many hip-hop classics that are still bumped today were made using tools that are very simple compared to even certaian shareware products. Look at the specs of an sp-12. Releasd today, it would be considerd woefully lacking in feautures. same goes for the akai s950. If the atastnetion 9th wonder is getting does not wake people up to the fact that most major programs are capable of making tight beats, I don't know what will. I bet if a rumor got started that the neptunes or timbaland used acid for whatever pop song of the week they are producing, you would have an avalanche of imitators.
