yo i had a track which i was thinking about entering into the beat this comp but it wouldnt have won and i couldnt get it finished in time.

anyway

i was trying to make some progress on this brass and horns track the other night and i was changing shit up and i stumbled on a combination which i liked even more. this new combination sounds completely different and uses different samples and everything.

so the new beat i made which i like better was somewhat of an accident.

this seems to happen to me alot.

how bout you? do you ever make beats accidently or do you always think of it in your head and make it as close as possible to your beat in your head

I almost never have a beat planned out, when i start. 90% of the time, I'm empty headed when I'm about to make a beat. I usually just mess around with an idea, until I'm satisfied.

Yea that happens to me too. One time i had this piano solo that i was using for part of a track. I accidentally pressed clip-reverse (it was assigned to a hotkey). And i played it, and im saying: Wuts Goin On?! (i didnt know i put it in reverse). But after listening for a second, im sayin: Damn, this is hot!!
I ended up looping that and using it for the whole song.

ive almost given up tryin to make a track sound like it does in my head before i sit down at my station.... i just basicaly mess around with sounds and freestyle it till sounds dope.... i wouldn't cal it accidental..... becuase over time ive gotten better and quicker at it... i just freestyle most of my tracks... play wit sounds..make a melody..add some drums ... then add a buildup and chorus...done...2 hours tops...and if im tryin to find a sound for a chorus...and i stumble upon another dope sound that don't fit the current track.. i save the setting then start a whole new beat wit that sound later... thats what i like about using software... its real easy to bounce between tracks and start new ideas

Music does write itself...Ill almost complete a track sometimes and then give it a complete facelift because of jus one percussion change or sample....most of tha time, it turns out pretty dope that way.
I jus let it go in tha direction it wants to go.

I dont usually redo a whole song with wholy new combos, but i'll experiment somewhat, and flip things around, other stuff like that. but i mean, most of the time you can just hear what flows and what doesnt

I accidently came up with a sick drum loop by accident. i was recording myself playing a middle eastern drum. When i was editing it, i reasmpled it wrong and it ended up playing back at half the spead. it was kind of distorted but phat. i filtered out some of the distortion and compressed the hell outta it and it sounded pretty good

thats crazy because I have tons of beats that I'll left half made, simply because Im not feelin it, but other people would call me crazy for not finishing it. Then the few beats that I stay up slaving over ends up being something that people not feelin...yeah thats happened on occasion to me too....
