I dont think its necessary to violate your beats as much as possible with effects for them to be considered LOFI. For me its all about the vibe, like if you found an old cassette tape in your parents attic. Some are in better shape than others

So many good beats today! But I think that at this point people are trolling on purpose with trap beats. There just HAD to be one. Good luck everybody!

Yes its all up for personal interpretation. For me is all about sampling. My all time favorite lofi track is row flip by sweetbn_. He used a piano sample from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, pitched it down like crazy and added some deep drums. And the flow is amazing. Just my two cents...

    My first finished beat

This drummer explains it beautifully and this can apply to music production as well. You delay your drums a bit to get that funky feel it's an oversimplification but you get the jist. I recommend watching from 5:35 mark first to see the example then watch the whole video. cheers!

    My first finished beat

ok so all of us had these types of beats as our first ones. They sucked, we knew it and persevered. I don't know what to tell you, man, it will come naturally as time progresses. As a first step, I would suggest putting swing on your drum track. I dont know which DAW you are using but it has to...

Attack of the Beats! - Battle #209

Oh wow, thanks @Fade really appreciate it. the secret? I disappeared, got me a machine mk3 and hit those tutorials night and day. plus, those plugins that come with Kontakt are next-level. the piano is all me, no samples and they just always come out clean no matter how much you crank them...

Nice turnout considering the theme. But still, a single trap beat weaseled its way in :D Can't escape them :D

Man, who cares. Bottom line you made a dope beat. You shouldn't justify your work to anyone except yourself. I'm proud of all of my beats, sampled or not. I made them, and if they were sampled I'm the one who made those samples work. Keep up the good work!
