The best soundcard for your home studio - How to buy a soundcard / audio interface

I have never liked creative sound cards, the AD/DA convertors just sound wrong. Check out RME or Apogge for some real audio devices (and more $$)

    SONAR or PROTOOLS

I think TDM is around 128 tracks. And that is more than enough, but still silly to limit it these days. And thats one of the (many) reasons I like Nuendo/Samplitude/Logic over Pro tools. Pro tools has so many silly limitations. But if you want to work in a real studio someday you need to know it...

    SONAR or PROTOOLS

Use Pro tools for does what it does best, edit audio. It rocks at that. But Sonar is a much better creative tool. If I had to pick one it would be sonar. But tools are tools....

    External HardDrive + VSTs

That is going to cause you trouble down the road. Keep your VST's on a internal drive. Also is the external drive firewire or USB2, generally internal drives perform a bit better because they are connected directly to the system bus. But if you forget to hook up your external drive at least all...

    Software for my iMac

Right, thus my sentence "you can load windows XP on a mac now" also read re my other sentence that says "they dont run natively on OSX" If you dont know OSX is the apple operating system that ships on all macs. But I have a mac and a PC, I dont want to have to reboot just to use Samplitude. %95...

    Software for my iMac

Ok let me clarify, they dont run natively on OSX, You can load windows XP on a mac now, you can also emulate windows with 3rd party software but the performance is terrible. You cant just "get around" software being written for a different platform. Thats like saying I just "got around" the...

    Software for my iMac

Um are you crazy, Fruity, Audition and Sonar are WINDOWS ONLY! Mac only programs include Logic, Digital performer, Peak, Soundhack. Final cut, Motion, Soundtrack pro, Shake. Also pro tools works better on a mac, I am not biased its just the truth. On another note it seems silly to pick your...

    compression.hardware or software

I like the URS plugins better. At some point you need you a decision about how something sounds and commit to it. People spend to much time tweaking, learn how to use a compressor properly (this can take years) then commit to it. production is all about making decisions.
