    Thanks tricky, i really appreciate that bro. Yeah i felt the beat needed more to it after i made up an arrangement using just the sample Grafik supplied. I just kinda go with what i feel the track needs, i think it worked out well in this case.

    ^^ what i would say as well. But, I mix on near feild monitors with no sub, but i play things out and cross reference on regular stereo system that has a sub. The sub can be useful in pointing out obnoxiously loud bass parts and a poorly mixed low end. I wouldn't make beats using one though...

    I wouldn't recommend a Ribbon mic. From my sound engineering class my instructor warned on using them a very good amount. The sound is definitely old but it may not be the warm sound you are looking for. They are very very delicate as you seem to already know, if you drop it than it's over...
