Barbara Jean English - "You're Gonna Need Somebody to Love You"

I really like your flip, man. My only thought is that it's a little repetitive at certain points, but it could just be my personal preference. Any secrets on how you're able to push the volume so much? I've been trying to gain stage and follow other tips but I still feel I'm losing big time in...

Nice, I took that piece of sample too "lord knows" for one of my flips. You turned yours into much more of a classic boom bap style, I like it. Were those other vocals part of the sample (what you have panned to the left and the "ohh baby" run) or was that a separate sample? Flutes were a nice...

Barbara Jean English - "You're Gonna Need Somebody to Love You"

Digging the vibe of this, I'll have to try this style. I like it. Agree with what others have said, i.e. cleanliness of the chops/arrangement. But with some clean up I think it's solid.

Super jazzy. Love the effects you have on the guitar and vocal. Cool how you chopped this, and as usual super clean. It might just be my headphones (Sennheiser HD400) but it sounds a little muddy (like the background brass has too much reverb/delay). But really like the vibe.

Flip 1 of (2?). I'm aiming to flip another part of this sample since I liked it so much.

And great drums! This one sounds familiar. I may have flipped it back in the day. Looking forward to working with this. p.s. I think this is my favorite part of Ill, guess I'm still old school and get a lot of joy in flipping samples and seeing how others do it.

Stop using reverb on your snare.

@K-waz what's your preferred/fav reverb plugin? I've been FL's Reverb 2 and sometimes TAL Reverb 4, but curious what others are using!

    First Trap Beat

Thanks for the specifics on this, was looking forward to getting your mixing expertise because I had a real hard time mixing the low end on this one. I've never worked with such heavy 808s before. There's a distorted kick over an 808 over certain parts. I was looking for a distorted sound, but...

    First Trap Beat

Thanks for listening! Ha, I hear you. At least I'm applying some concepts of hip-hop (sampling) to trap instead of a basic chord progression looped alongside a blown 808. Trying to bring my own element into what's trending haha. Thanks for the feedback on the sample chops/progression. I had...

    First Trap Beat

Trying to adapt. Let me know what you think! I like to create "projects" to keep me motivated so my next one is to make a Halloween inspired trap beat CD. Still sticking with sampling though because I love it and my favorite part of beatmaking is trying to making something totally different from...

    Dilla Time (the book)

Good to know. I've had it saved on Amazon for a while now, same with Rick Rubin's book.

    Beat Battles

    1) Make beats. 2) Upload whenever Fade says to. 3) Learn from the competition. That's it. Don't sweat it. Creating is supposed to be fun, right? Full disclosure I just joined this forum about 2 months ago so I'm still learning the ropes myself.

    Best headphones for mixing?

Appreciate the feedback and suggestions. And I get that headphones aren't ideal, but unfortunately 10pm and later is my free time right now.
