I wasn't going to enter this one, because I didn't have time to make a beat, and I wasn't really feeling this one - decided to give it a mix, then compose the remaining 50%. But I just weren't keen, got some aspects of the mix I'm not happy with either. Should have just binned it and not entered tbh.
Didn't want to miss an entry tho,as I won't be entering the christmas beat this.
That's great. Look forward to seeing the difference it makes

The winning brackets on the West conference, two (x2) extremely hard to choose between beats.
The odder thing, are that the matchups in style are identical in both brackets --- my mood was leaning a certain way today, which led to me choosing that style in both matchups.

The main criterion for a good rap beat is whether the MC will be comfortable rapping. If not, then the rap beat is shit

I'm assuming your beat was the EDM beat... based on your comment the other day about submitting a Dub Corn Hyper trap Pony Dildo Wave beat or something.
This is a Hip Hop site, so generally if something leans too far into edm territory it won't get the votes.
Outside of that, I thought it was very well produced.

The first and most important thing I focus on when voting is musicality and originality/creativity, and in my opinion, that should be the benchmark.
That said you shouldn't put too much value on the outcome of these battles, as the results often give a distorted picture. Apparently, some people simply don't like a certain style (the trap vs. boom bap debate) and auto vote the other beat, or even vote strategically.
If recognition is the thing you're after, you should enter a battle with a pro as judge, or send them to Timbaland:

@PhxAZTracMaster I actually voted for your beat, that was really smooth. But some rounds that's just what happens and it could be a matter of 1 or 2 votes that decides. I was hope that people vote for the best beat but the thing with any battle (live or online) is that everyone has their preferences.

Just keep doing you and try not to bash other folks beats! we're all in the same boat. Some new, some old, some trying to improve, sold very old and stuck in their ways (*cough*).
Got Bayerdynamic DT 990 Pro's. Procrastinated like I always do, sort of sacked the idea and then Amazon sent me a notification for a "Like new" set and it was a no brainer. Not entirely convinced that I have the super clear, immaculate sound that many of the reviews suggest but they have dramatically improved my mixing and mix choices have been near spot on when I've listened back on other devices. Bought a set of pads for my old Sony 7506's too so can still use them if required. Noticed a massive difference in my van which speaker system is basically 2 tin cans and a straw. So if bass gets through to a noticeable degree, sounds good and doesn't drown out the rest of the beat then I know it's on the money. In fact, I did it with this Warzone entry and was very happy with the result.
In a few instances I've felt the same way and decided not to vote at all. I think I did it with 1 battle in the first round of this Warzone.

Yeah that's the way, man. I'm using Slate VSX, really fucking great as a translation tool. Even if I'm making/mixing in one room, I might start going to other rooms and realise there was a massive issue that sounded normal. Then you resolve. Good to have a bunch of playback devices. And great where you have one like your van where like 'oh xyz will happen on this, then that means abc'
Yeah definitely, I find that on the West brackets mostly.
Fortunately I had a feeling, and i decided to go with the beats that was leaning to that feeling. (i.e. very clean well composed, vs gritty compressy mix --- the one that i was feeling, i made this choice on the various battles where it applied; not saying which way i leant, don't want to impact voting.) But in reality, all 4 beats I was checking seemed like valid winners.

I'm guessing software is similar to Abbey Road Studio NX? Which I think is great in theory but ends up messing with your head and how you mix or reference mixes.

I guess it could indeed be. I believe Slate is leading the way in this arena though.
VSX has a bunch of rooms, and diff speakers in each. I'm forever trying to decide on my 'main' room. But I noticed an issue a couple times recently with the results im getting from the one i've been using recently. Going to switch up rooms and see if it disappears, could be other factors. The cool thing is tho, you immediately identify that issue in the other rooms, and address it.
I've had decent mixes for a while, but ever since I got VSX (and some other factor), my level has gone up another level, and that's led to my recent mixes.
