As a old school boom bap hip hop fan, i want to ask you:

  1. What you think is better, and why, the boom bap or the trap?
  2. What type of lyrics you prefer, lyrics with message or lyrics for bitchez & money, and why?
i hope that you will be honest :)

This thread should get a lot of attention. I think everyone on here knows where I stand, but:

1. I don't like the term "boom bap" but I know what it means. Yes, I prefer that style because it just sounds better to me musically than Trap. I have heard plenty of Trap beats that were good but I just always get the feeling that it's just a fad rather than a style that will be remembered for years like Boom Bap.

2. Lyrics with a message are great, but so are stories and funny rhymes too. You can't forget about the funny raps. As long as the lyrics make sense and either get people thinking, make them laugh, or get their head nodding, it's all good.

I like both, there's a time and place for everything depending on my mood. When I leave work friday evening and get in the car, I want to hear something with energy. And thats not necessarily trap, it all depends on the song more that the beat style.

I prefer Trap. I make trap beats and trap music. But trap is here to stay, its not going away anytime soon. People love this kind of music. All kinds of people too, kids in school to trappers in the trap. It's called trap music for a reason. It's made by people in the trap for other in the trap. Some call it Chicken music or Stove music. Referring to cooking crack both of those names. But the reason this style of music isn't going anywhere is cause the people that make it are already rich, there for they have the money to get well known as independent artist.

Running off on a tangent alert!!!!

I don't think one is better than the other, to be honest. They both exist in their own respective worlds.

I love the boom bap/golden era sound. There was something special about that era, in regards to you feeling their soul and their real creativity shine through the record. I don't get that with the "boom bap" artists of today. People are trying to become these great lyricists for the sake of being a lyricist, which I can hear in the music. I get in my moods and just bump the golden era joints hardbody...

I love trap also, but it's more of the EDM version...the instrumental type
(see example or ) .

I love the way they are put together, and the sound design and automation is fascinating. The ability to create an instrumental that literally doesn't need lyrics is underrated in my opinon.
Old trap like old TI and Jeezy I can rock to, but most of this new trap features artists where their lyrics are literally unintelligible. Just mumbling nonsense over a hard ass beat. (see Example: )

No preference on lyrics, to be honest. Many old heads (such as myself) complain about how there's no lyricism today and that somehow everyone from the 90s had bars with meaning and didn't rap about the same shit. Those same people would bump the shit out of M.O.P. and Nore.....and if you're really familiar with those artists, you see my point.

I don't mind the ratchet shit as long as it's clever and sounds like it's well thought out, but I heard these golden era wannabes sound like complete trash on tracks.

I like boombap more than trap. Boom bap has some dope drums in their beats like you can easily say something is boom bap just listening to the drums.
Trap on the other hand.... Hahaha allot of those trap beats it's the same keys pushed but than in a different arrangement. Just something i noticed.

And personally i like rap that has some story to it or maybe experience. But that money talk and bitches drugs is just the same old shit different day method of saying i have no story to rap or experience.. Just give the audience something to think about.

Boom Bap. Personally I can't stand todays "trap music". It all sounds the same to me. All I hear is bells and whistles and it drives me insane. There just doesnt seem to be any creativity and originality in it to me but hey to each his own. If thats what you like do your thing.
