Opening and cleaning Maschine internals..

Hey..

Got a video I did ages ago about cleaning Maschine encoders after mine were jumping all over the place - sometimes without even being touched..

So if you want to do some general maintenance or you have a misbehaving Maschine, maybe give this a shot before moving it on.

Hope there's some value to it, not much that can go wrong, just be careful - don't scratch the PCB and use the rule of thumb that "you should never need force when putting something back on" and you should be good.

Good video! My MK1 was doing that a lot and it was really annoying. I managed to get a replacement but I didn't bother to clean anything (since I got the replacement). It sucks that this happens though but I guess it's inevitable with all the dirt flying in there every day.

Yeah it was really doing my head in at the time, go to make a beat but can't cause shits jumping all over the place and pretty much having to punch some of the buttons to get a response. ;p

Yea a lot of gunk gets caught in the grease that the knobs have on them naturally.

Could have rolled a joint from all the crumbs under the pads bahahaha!

Have the knobs jumped around since then? Because I remember NI's techs had me trying all sorts of things but nothing worked. Most of it was software stuff though.

Isopropyl alcohol is much better suited for cleaning electronics, but it's nice to see that denaturated also works.

Surprisingly no @Fade. I still have minor issues with mute and solo buttons though not long after cleaning, nowhere near as bad as before though - seems to also be the angle that I place pressure on the solo or mute pad that affects this.

Heh. I was beta testing for a bit for NI Maschine, I wonder, maybe they could employ me to fix their faulty units too lol..

Yes absolutely @Drago Zetić was all I had at the time.

I have cleaned it again since, and now use "Fast Drying Contact Cleaner" especially for electronics - sprayed the fuck out of the PCB, just doused it, was literally holding it from a corner waiting for the cleaner to either evaporate or drip off. Only because I didn't have one of those straw nozzle things to focus the spray.

But yeah I'd recommend that "Fast Drying Contact Cleaner".

Also on this topic, when hitting the knobs - the cleaner will strip the grease and gunk out..

Some lubrication is required for longevity (as she said).

I think the spray I used just recently has a light lubrication mixed in, something to think about also..
