    sampling drums?

A lot of old records from the '70s have most of their low end content in either the left or right (usually left) so I do find its sometimes better to sample kicks from one side and hats from the other then just see what sounds good for the rest. 99% of the time I sample in mono

    Shakey Dog - Ghostface/Lewis Parker

No. 'Shakey Dog' is not LP at his best.

That's one of LP's weakest beats

    general panning guidelines

Well, probably had more to do with the fact that they only had switches back then for panning: left, right and centre.

when to replace tubes in preamp?

Depends from unit to unit. Some only need to be changed every 10 years or so. I guess if they dont light up they need changing? I'm no expert though. Different tubes will give different qualities so even if yours dont need changing some new ones might still improve the sound. Check them out...

    What is Hz and kHz

Hz = hertz - the way frequencies are measured. The higher the hz, the higher the frequency, and the higher the pitch. Simple. Khz = kilohertz - So for example, instead of saying 5000hz you would simple put 5khz. Just like a kilogram is a thousand grams.

Digidesign Mbox 2 with Pro Tools LE 7

Both mboxes have four inputs. 2 analog and 2 s/pdif. The mbox1 can't use the analog and digital at the same time. The mbox2 can use the analog and digital at the same time.
