Need to learn Piano, Any Advice?
i say just play......... you will over time learn how to voice chords yourself and as your ears gets better you will not have a problem working out the 'right notes' to play..... really often all you need is a coupla notes or a chord or two and play those in rhythmically and just keep... -

i don't know if anyone has mentioned this but i often use an omni pattern (using cad vx2) when recording raps. It works great with deep frequencies when you get up close. an older yamaha rackmount sampler can be had real cheap on ebay and is very capable -

Not using quanitze in your beats.
i often just play my shit in and record as wav files so quantize isn't an option sometimes. I think it is important to 'develop the metronome in your head' -

The reason why hardware IS better than software !
this is a none issue with modern daws ("audio constipation" eh hee) but i myself like hardware because of the process i find it's fun and it's more easy to be creative enjoying yourself i like playing synths in as just wav files, playing patterns straight into sonar on my sp-404 as wav files... -

MPC & VST plug-ins
i don't use the mpc but i have my sp-404 set up in a send in sonar and (i have six outs on my soundcard) it might be easier exporting your synth sounds as wav files from the program you're using then just bringing them in on compact flash -

Difference in Mic's?
59 and 200 dollar mics nowadays are really in the same price range. Like big d said an mxl can sound on par or close to on par a shure (low mid range usually) it is with mics like u87s c12s manley mics etc. the rode classic 2 or the cad vx2 or se electronics gemini are cheaper higher...
